Golf Picks Byron Nelson 2014

Early Shoot Out
Recent Rain should make for Soft Greens and Low scores on Thursday and Friday.

The Men from Boys
Will be separated as High Winds (40 MPH) hit on Sat and Sun.

Jordan Spieth Returns to Where It All Started
this week in Dallas. He got his first PGA start here in 2010 at 16 years of age and finished 16h.
I think he has a real shot at shutting up his critics this week. If not this week - next week - in the 2nd leg of a Texas Two-Step. Spieth seemed seriously upset and determined to close after The Players.

Age My Ass
The talk of his age being a factor in not closing The Players or Masters is Moronic.
Kuchar and Adam Scott (Way Past 20) Recently choked away victories?   It's just hard to put 4 low rounds together on these courses.  The Tour is Begging for Someone to Step In for Tiger.
Spieth's doing just fine with 15 top 10s and a Fat Bank Account. Ignore the Press and Play Your Game Jordan. It's Not a Matter of "If" but "When" for the Future #1.

My Top Picks Are:
Jordan Spieth
Keegan Bradley
Robet Garrigus
Martin Flores
Angel Cabrera

You Should Probably Cover:
Matt Kuchar
Doubt He'll Win another this week - but Ranked High (See Below).

Bombers
Normally Have an Advantage here. Soft wont help them Roll Early, But May Make Scrambling Easier. High Winds may put them in the Creek on the Weekend.

These Are Worth a Ticket:
Gary Woodland
Dustin Johnson
Robert Garrigus
Angel Cabrera

Patrick Cantlay
was a Rising Star - much like Spieth a few years ago.  Like Jordan, he too is an old soul - not a follower of Social Media - he's a student of the game. He shot 60 at the US Open a few years ago. Cantlay returns to The Tour this week after nearly a year off due to back surgery and a stint on the Web.com Tour - Well Worth $5 at 200-1.

A Few Other Longshots
are Worth a Look as Well. See (Below)

POWER RANKS

Round 1

Jordan Spieth Misses Fairways
75% of them - to be exact.  He said he was working on adding Height for this tourney.
After 54 Bogey Free holes last week -  If it isn't broken - don't Fix it.
Unlike Tiger - Spieth is candid and humble about his mistakes. He admitted he would be working on his driver before the 2nd Round. The Luck of he Draw was not in his favor - as he had an early start and the wind was calmer for the afternoon Round. Jordan did bounce back after a Bogie and Double Bogie with Late Birdies to Finish Even for the Round.

Round 2

Power Ranks - Todd and Hoffman On Top

Brendon Todd Out in Front.
He was Humble and Positive in his post game interview. Punch Shots (keeping it low) was his reply when asked for his key to success in the first 2 rounds. Just the opposite of Spieth's plan going in. A much more sensible approach.

Jordan Finds 2nd Gear
He did not light it up today, but did help his cause immensely with this Birdie on 18. That took him to (-3) and just 5 Shots off Todd. 3 Shots off the Pack in 2nd at (-6). If High Winds do Become a Big factor - We could see  -12 Win This. Either way, he'll need two Low Rounds to make up for Thursday and Friday

Final Hole (-2) - From the Rough 178 Yards

Stuck It! (-3)

Round 3
____________________________________

Jordan Finds Needs a Vacation
Couldn't take one this week - He was the Favorite this week -  for his much heralded Homecoming. Gues what - he's human - Not 20 - Human. Bogies dashed any hope of a comeback this week - Finished Even for the Tourney yesterday. He'll be playing again next week in the 2nd leg of this Houston swing. I'll still Bet him - but he needs to go be 20 for a few weeks and comeback fresh for the US Open.

Selfless
When you care for a loved one from an early age (his autistic sister) - you become selfless. As usual - this week was more about the fans and kids than himself. He and Harrison Frazar put on a clinic for the local kids.

Brenden Todd
Needs one more low day to get his first win.  I like the way he's playing. But, with Oost tied with him for first - wind gusts expected - and a packed leaderboard - it won't be easy.

CROWDED DOWN THE STRETCH

The Lead is within reach for A Dozen Players.
I just hope a few shoot low and put on a show.
Most Sundays this year - it's been
He Who Bogies Least - Wins.
Hope they don't All Pull up Lame.
Be nice to see some Birdies at the end.

Power Rank Tickets
 $500 Todd $5 100-1
$400 Hoffman $5 80-1
$250 Woodland $10 25-1
